January 25th

3 p.m. A free tour “Voices of Hope” to commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day will be held at Mikas and Kipras Petrauskai Branch of Kaunas City Museum (K. Petrausko Str. 31).

The tour highlights the destinies of Jewish musicians and Jewish savior-musicians at the State Theater and Music School, later at the Conservatory and the Small Stage, as well as the story of Danuta Pomerancaitė's salvation.

Many Jewish musicians have been working in the State Theater and the State Music School since their inception. These include the Hofmeckers, the Stupel family, violinists Ruvim Stender, Laszlo Hajos, Isaac Wildman-Zaidman, cellist Povilas Berkavičius, singer Chanon Shulgin and many others. Countless Jewish musicians played on the Small Stage. Their activities were immortalized by recordings, concert programs, and pupils. The death toll and spiritual strength of music in the face of death are shocking, and the inspirational stories of salvation offer hope.
