The architectural design contest of the Science Centre, which will be constructed on Kaunas Nemunas Island, will be held by one of the most famous companies in the world Malcolm Reading Consultants. The specialists are convinced that participation of this company in this project will help attract the most famous architects from the entire world.
“Today we are making an important step in this important project – we are opening a design contest. We have decided not to limit ourselves to the Lithuanian architects and we have invited world famous partners that will help us attract the most famous architects of the world to this project”, Mayor of Kaunas Visvaldas Matijošaitis emphasized.
London based company Malcolm Reading Consultants has 20 years experience of holding international design contests.
“We are best known for the contest of Helsinki based Guggenheim museum. We are working on various other projects worldwide, and one of them is the Modern Art Centre in Riga, the contest of which we are about to finish”, Project Director of Malcolm Reading Consultants David Hamilton who is currently visiting Kaunas stated.
This international contest will be published at the beginning of June and will last until September. The company Malcolm Reading Consultants will be responsible for the entire design vision contest.
“This is a new challenge in our architects’ community – to have an opportunity to work under such conditions that will be laid down by this company that has been working in this area for more than twenty years. This practice that will be brought to Lithuania will be priceless for all of us. Perhaps this way we will manage to get out of the stage of contest we are stuck in”, member of Kaunas City Council Jonas Audėjaitis noted.
It is planned that the Science Centre in Kaunas will start operating in 2018. The indicative project value is 23 million euro.
