Visiting Kaunas for the first time, the newly appointed Ukrainian Ambassador Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi confessed to be a dedicated fan of “Žalgiris”. In the meeting with Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis, the Ambassador also emphasized the contribution of Kaunas to supporting the Ukrainian soldiers.
On Wednesday Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis met the newly appointed Ukrainian Ambassador Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi who arrived to discuss the collaboration possibilities between Kaunas and Ukraine in the development of economic and cultural potential and to thank for the city’s support to Ukraine.
“Kaunas has always played a particular role in the life of Ukraine; the affinity has been felt at all times. Bloodshed in our country made it even more intense. Though I am visiting Kaunas for the first time, I have many very good friends here and I have strong sentiment for your city,” the Ambassador maintained.
The Ambassador thanked Kaunas residents for their support to the Ukrainian soldiers: “our nations are like brothers. It is very symbolic that last year on August 24 a solemn celebration of the Ukraine’s Independence Day was held in Kaunas, Ukrainian soldiers were accepted and fostered. We highly appreciate your understanding and support.”
The Ukrainian Ambassador took interest in possibilities of potential investment in Kaunas, the city’s newly developed projects, and the optimization of heating and electricity prices.
“As I have heard, Kaunas is one of the first cities which succeeded in diminishing prices with the help of biofuel boiler-houses. We would find it very useful to employ your experience and maybe apply some solutions back at home, in our country”, the Ukrainian Ambassador stated. “I am very pleased about my visit to Kaunas. I have no doubt that collaboration of our cities will become stronger and the relations – even closer. Today I am planning to participate in the conference on efficient functioning of the Energy Union and I will definitely attend the next match of Kaunas “Žalgiris”. I have been a devoted fan of “Žalgiris” for years.”
