Kaunas started preparation of the International Children’s Games

Representatives of the International Children’s Games Organization visiting Lithuania officially passed the baton for the organization of these games to the city of Kaunas. The games to be held in this city next summer will bring together over 1.5 thousand young athletes from the whole world.

“We are very pleased that this time the International Children’s Games will be held in the Baltic country. Having organized these games in your city, you will become a part of our organization which we call our family,” Mr. Torsten Rasch, President of the International Children’s Games Organization, told.

An agreement between the city of Kaunas and the International Children’s Games Organization was signed in the Kaunas Town Hall on Friday. The agreement was signed by the President of the International Children’s Games Organization and the Deputy Mayor of Kaunas Povilas Mačiulis. This step marks an official beginning of preparations for the children’s games.

“It is a great honour for us to be here, in Kaunas. We expect the same hospitality for the children who will come here next year. I know that Lithuanians have been successful in these games a great number of times,” the President of the International Children’s Game Organization emphasized.

“These games are an honour and unique possibility to present oneself at the international level. At the same time, we feel great responsibility since Kaunas will be flooded quite soon by a thousand and a half young athletes from the whole world. They will not only compete here, but will also come to know our country, its culture, will experience a number of positive emotions and find new friends,” Mr. Mačiulis, Deputy Mayor of Kaunas said.

The International Children’s Games will be held in Kaunas on 4-9 July 2017. It is estimated that to compete for medals, in total 1.5 thousand participants will come. Athletes under 16 years of age usually compete in the competitions of 6-10 types of sports.
