Kaunas City has been announced as a new member of UNESCO Creative Cities Network

Kaunas has joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and becomes the first city in Eastern and Western European countries that received the City Design Status. Certainly, this will contribute to the ambition of Kaunas Modernist Interwar Architecture to join UNESCO.

The UNESCO Creative Cities Network welcomed cities within its seven creative fields: Crafts and Folk Art, Design, Film, Gastronomy, Literature, Media Arts and Music. Kaunas City became one of the six cities announced in the field of Design.

“I’m pleased, that Kaunas succeeded to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The potential of Kaunas City sprang up during the interwar period and it is still reflected not only in architecture, but in design also. This is the historical memory that has clear effect in nowadays.” – said Mr. Simonas Kairys, Deputy Mayor of Kaunas City.
