Kaunas received international award for the development of tourist routes

Another international award will arrive in Kaunas on the 12th of November. This time, the award is dedicated to public institution “Kaunas IN”, an agency responsible for the tourism, investments and international marketing development of the city: it has been recognized as the “Tourism Company of the Year” at the international business awards “The Corporate LiveWire Baltics Prestige Awards 2021/22”.

For a decade now, the organizers of “Prestige Awards” held in Great Britain have recognized public institution “Kaunas IN” not only as an international marketing team which creates an attractive image of the region, but also as an innovative tourism promotion agency. At the same time, they also appreciated the ingenious efforts of Kaunas City to attract tourists.

Many years of experience in creating urban tourism

“Kaunas has been famous for its original and prominent tourism promotion programs for many years, which are the merit of the talented team that cares about the city and its attractiveness to both business and tourists. Therefore, such awards are simultaneously an evaluation of the work of these people, which once again demonstrates the contribution of “Kaunas IN” to the experience of the city guests and at the same time creates beneficial environment for the activities of hospitality sector companies”, claimed the Mayor of Kaunas City Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

As it was highlighted by the jury of “Prestige Awards”, “Kaunas IN” made the greatest impression with its holistic and inclusive approach to both the incoming tourists and the citizens themselves, integrating the diverse community into the tourism sector of the city. A wide variety of free itineraries have been offered, covering a wide range of topics from street art to architectural monuments and filming locations or itineraries prepared specifically for travellers with children. Moreover, each of those itineraries is unique, Kaunas-like, full of witty remarks and humour, therefore it ensures a long-remembered, unique experiences.

During the quarantine period, the organization moved these uniquely designed, especially informative itineraries that encouraged to see Kaunas anew, into the cyberspace as well. Thus, now all Kaunas City pearls of tourism are even closer, merely one click of a button away!

The variety of “Kaunas IN” activities includes not only the creation of thematic tours and itineraries for tourists from Lithuania and all over the world, but also the organization of local and outbound tourism events and programs. Furthermore, the organization also spreads the word about the city by participating in exhibitions, collaborating with other agencies both to create attractions and to ensure smooth communication. Finally, it also creates and develops the modern urban tourism brand #kaunastic. The institution also collects and analyses statistical data pertaining to tourism, organizes training in the hospitality sector and organizes the work of information centres.

At the centre of the international awards – exceptional experiences and cooperation

“When entering the competition for these awards, we placed great emphasis not only on what and how we do it, but also on the uniqueness of Kaunas City. We also noted that being the second largest city in Lithuania, Kaunas is an exceptional, new and undiscovered travel destination, with its own special spirit and #kaunastic feeling upon arrival here”, claimed the head of the Tourism Department of public institution “Kaunas IN” Inga Pažereckaitė – Kalėdienė.

This potential of Kaunas as an undiscovered tourism diamond was recently recognised by “Financial Times”, which awarded Kaunas in the ranking of its magazine “fDi Magazine” under such categories as accessibility, development of the hotel chain, sports, culture and heritage. As noted by the experts who compiled this ranking, the city has not only managed to refute the prejudices, but also to exceed the expectations by distinguishing itself with unique experiences – from the medieval castle and museums to the city beaches with their water sports entertainment and cultural life.

Probably the highest appreciation for the harmonious teamwork of different Kaunas tourism and culture organizations – and at the same time a great commitment – was the title of the European Capital of Culture 2022, which Kaunas is ready to justify completely during the forthcoming year.
